Parents need to know that Blue Lock is a soccer anime based on the manga of the same name. In Blue Lock the individual is most important; competitors get stronger as they give in to their egos. Teamwork is still a part of the series, but only as the means to an end, winning. There is some violence: competitors yell and get into shoving matches. Some blood is shown when characters fall down or get hit by the ball. Language includes insults and some profanity (“Bull—t,” “goddamn”). There is some partial nudity; a couple scenes show a man’s naked backside in a locker room.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Blue Lock series then well – you should catch up on watching this anime ASAP. The series debuted in August 2018 under the direction of Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura. Last year, the series gained immense popularity when studio Eight Bit adapted Blue Lock for television. The hit anime closed to solid reviews in March, and a second season was announced shortly after its conclusion.

Blue Lock: Episode Nagi’s biggest boon is that you don’t need to see the TV show it’s based on to understand what’s going on. Unlike many anime movies, Episode Nagi helpfully explains its central conflict rather than assuming the viewer has been following its TV counterpart.
