Spanning countless animated series, comic books, and now live-action films, The Clown Princess of Crime and the Caped Crusader have had an interesting relationship over the years. The bond between Batman and Harley Quinn evolved from adversarial to even amorous, and everywhere in between. While they couldn’t be more differences in personality and habits, they share a mutual disdain for The Joker, the Dark Knight’s nemesis and Quinn’s ex-friend.

Clever, engaging, and (most importantly) Fun; those are the three things I look for in a comic and this has it all. If you’re familiar with Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner then you already know what to expect and if you’re a fan of Harley Quinn you will not be disappointed. In a world of comics turned as grim and gritty as Nolan’s Batman Jimmy and Amanda ensure we don’t forget the fun, vibrant place comics can be. If you’re a fan of the more playful side of comic books you’re in for a treat, if you’re more supportive of the grimmer, more serious tone set by Scott Snyder this probably won’t be your cup of tea.

Harley was a smash hit with fans. But until 1999, she had only appeared in out-of-continuity comic books. The one-shot graphic novel Batman: Harley Quinn brought her into DC’s mainstream storyline, officially making Harley a part of Batman canon. She was made a little darker and was given more abilities — and more sex appeal, another key ingredient in Harley’s trajectory. Her popularity soared, and she became a recurring character in DC’s comic books, video games, and TV shows.
