Smile is effectively the anti-GoPri: where GoPri is tightly plotted with no filler despite being 50 episodes long, Smile is a show composed pretty much entirely of filler. If you attempt to take it out, you're left with little over a single cour.
As Smile is such a slice-of-life show, it lives and dies on its comedy. If the comedy does not land, you will not enjoy it. However because it's so episodic, how well the comedy lands can and will vary from episode to episode. As such, this post is here to guide your viewing.
I often describe Smile Precure as a series light on Character Development and light on Plot Development. This is why the series is one of the more risky watches in the franchise. That said, if you can look past that it makes up for a lot of it's flaws with raw charm and creativity.
honestly, Precure Filler guides feels like such a bad idea, but especially for Smile Precure. Either you are enjoying the antics so just watch the whole series or don't watch it at all and go watch some other seasonal series.
(Addendum: personally, I don’t watch Precure for the story. It’d be nice if somebody put together a “list of the most interesting and fun episodes” for a season like KiraKira, which had a terrible story but great characters. But that’s neither here nor there.)
I've said so many times that every episode of Smile is important to understand what the season is about. It's very Slice of Life, so the plot takes somewhat of a backseat to the characters and their stories.
I appreciate the existence of this, but since smile is such a goofy show that doesn't really choose character OR plot focus, trying to watch for those isn't why you should watch it. It's a silly show with some creative and goofy episodes. I'm not the biggest fan of the series but I definitely overall enjoyed the experience (even if a couple of the episodes are really bad ngl 😂)
This was an absolutely excellently written episode of Smile. Seeing Miyuki in her fucking element, at the height of what a good character she can be, is fucking awesome to watch and translate. It has its issues, certainly, most of them involving Candy and lazy stock footage. But when this show comes alive, it fucking comes alive, and what fun it is.
In the meantime I have just watched Smile Precure 31-32 and this story raises some fascinating issues connected to the concepts under consideration.
According to Toei Animation, the ninth series of precure “Smile Precure!” was announced to start on February 5th 2012. The character designs of the new precure were …
