Hunter x hunter ep 6 2011

Hunter x Hunter, one of the longest-running anime and manga series of all time, is literally riding the wave. Hunter x Hunter has become a top franchise since

The applicants who are not fazed by the task, jump to get the eggs. Some of the applicants fall to their deaths, failing to realize that they should have waited for the updraft. The other applicants rely on Gon’s senses, who signals when to release their grips from the webs. They cook the eggs and find them delicious. Gon shares the egg to Todo, who also enjoys it. Menchi tells him that they risk their lives for the joy of discovering delicious food like the dream eggs. Todo is humbled and asserts he will try again next year. The applicants learn that being a Hunter requires a great amount of determination, regardless of type. Only 42 applicants remain.

The Spider-Eagle has always fascinated me, and as an Art Hunter candidate, I did my best to illustrate it.

This was always a weird episode for me, it feels much less large in scale compared to the first examination, but I had fun with it. For some reason I remember there being a lot more to it though, I could have swore it was at least two episodes long.

Well, like the applicants that took part in the second phase of the Hunter Exam, that felt unexpected. I mean, I predicted that the next phase would be rather outlandish, but a cooking exam? Really? Well, props for creativity. Also, it shows that there really are a lot of different ways to be a Hunter, and that in a strange way, all of them are equal in some respect. This episode, like the second phase of the exam, was certainly an interesting one.

Now to speak of something slightly unrelated, am I the only one who busted out laughing during the previous episode synopsis? I know it's silly, but just the way they transitioned from Hisoka feeling excited choking Gon to Gon talking how exciting it was to be in that kind of life or death situation had me busting out in laughter. The way that whole transition played out pretty much forced me to pause the episode for a minute from laughing too hard. If it weren't for the knowledge of the previous episode, certain… implications could be made there, but let's not delve too far down the rabbit hole.

So the second part of the exam begins, and like I mentioned, it was a cooking contest. I got by the end why it was like it was, but I've got to agree with some of the exam participants in this regard. Having a cooking contest of all things be a deciding factor to becoming a Hunter seemed rather silly. It didn't help that Menchi took those thoughts a bit too closely to heart, and failed everyone that decided to participate. I understand her situation, to be certain, but that doesn't make her seem any less arrogant. Granted, this same logic could be applied to all of the participants who mocked her, but as the saying goes: two wrongs don't make a right.

Luckily, someone decided to step in, Menchi called a mulligan, and another exam began, which was also interesting in its own right. The whole idea behind Split Mountain was pretty cool, and really lent itself to being part of a rather cool sequence. Seeing everyone fly back up the mountain through the updraft caused by the ravine was pretty awesome, and it made for a simple, but very effective exam. Also, Gon being Gon at the end was pretty cute, and it came with its own lessons about equality and such, so that was neat.

I don't feel like there's as much to really say for this episode because everything moved rather quickly, so let's take some time, and talk about the animation, which I haven't really touched on yet. I was inspired to talk about it after seeing Chairman Netero come crashing down from his airship. I'll be honest in saying that the animation in Hunter x Hunter, for the most part, isn't anything particularly spectacular. Don't get me wrong here. Everything looks nice, the character designs and environments lend themselves how they need to, and I don't really have any major issues with the animation itself, but it doesn't really have much that stands out to me so far. I get that with 148 episodes that you have to spread yourself out, lest you end up drawing the last few episodes in crayon

However, if I can compliment its animation in any one area outside of character design, it would have to be in its effects. I loved the way that the fog worked in the previous episode because the animation really lent itself to make the fog itself look and feel as intimidating as possible. The entire time our heroes were surrounded by the thick fog, I could feel the danger lurking around every corner because, in many ways, there actually was danger all around. Like I mentioned earlier, though, Chairman Netero's landing inspired me to go on this spiel today because it looked really satisfying to me. Seeing the dust form and envelop everyone around him looked great, and really lent this image of power behind the Chairman, even for his old age. More than anything, though, I love the way that it moved, and how it swayed throughout the shot, and for as stupid as it seems, it honestly impressed me more than I feel like it should have. But hey, who am I to judge where Studio Madhouse puts the effort in with their animation?

Overall, this was a rather solid, albeit silly episode that goes to show that being a Hunter pretty much is whatever you make of it, and wherever we go from here, I'm sure it'll be just as, if not more, interesting than what we've already seen, so at this point, the sky really is the limit for the Hunter Exam.
