The more I watch the new Fruits Basket, the more I appreciate some minor director’s decisions in previous version – like in ex. getting rid of that damn cap. It’s currently featured in opening, ending and is being shown in every episode but first (I could have missed it there). Foreshadowing is one thing, hitting people with a neon sign “This is important” is another thing.

The Three Musketeers are back again to celebrate the second season of the Fruits Basket anime! Kill the time between new episodes with the ridiculous antics of Shigure, Ayame, and Hatori!

The part that stood out to me the most was the cap ♥ When Beverly sings “my heart” the moment when the cap is shown, I got hit in the kokoro! The fact that the cap is getting so much attention is probably Natsuki Takaya Sensei’s way of saying that this anime will follow the manga from the first word to the last.

And I really love how Beverly sings! This is my first anime that features her heavenly vocals. It’s very refreshing. But, if you were to ask me which opening song I like between the two Furuba series, my heart would still gravitate to “For Fruits Basket” by the late Ritsuko Okazaki. In my previous blog,

To me, I thought Hatori being shown first was surprising, considering the fact that I thought they would feature the main characters first. I am, by no means, complaining though: my heart fluttered when I saw him ♥ If I were to rank my biases, it’s Kyo at #1, then Hatori, Kureno, and lastly, Hatsuharu and Momiji. Just seeing Hatori at that moment gets me really pumped up to see the episode of Hatori’s past with Kana!!! (To my readers who are new to the Fruits Basket series, you will need to have your tissues ready when it happens!!!)

This song mostly played whenever Yuki’s screen time hit an emotional point in the 2001 series. It suits his character pretty well sinces the music evokes a tone of melancholy, similar to how Yuki feels most of time while trying to interact with others. So when I was watching this scene in the 2019 version, I instantly subconsciously heard it.
