Morioka is so taken by the new loot boxes in Fruit de Mer that she decides to spend money and aim for the top prize with her guild, but the so-called greed sensor keeps getting in her way. On the other hand, in real life, a man suddenly starts talking to her at the convenience store.
Recovery of an MMO Junkie didn’t really need this episode and clearly it was aware of it. So rather than pretend to be an 11 episode series, they released this two part add on as an OVA and to be honest that made it easier to swallow. Basically, Morioka and Sakurai are charming and they continue to be charming here but it adds absolutely nothing to the series and is merely a chance to spend more time with two characters you may have made a connection with if you liked the show.
The one thing it did contribute was to give a sense of the couple as they become a little more couple-like even if they are moving forward in tiny little steps. Sakurai offers to help Morioka build a computer after her hard drive dies and the two spend a pleasant day together giving the computer a test spin as they go on a quest online.
IIRC, this episode is a DVD special that was also streamed – basically an OVA rather than an episode. That being said, other than the “accidental pervert” moment in the first segment it was cute as h*ll.
The series was only ten episodes long so it was nice to get a couple more stories starring this cute couple. I liked the computer plot more than the dream one.
Imagine being in your high school class, whether it be your math class or elective class or the room where your club meets, and out of nowhere, you and your classmates receive text messages from someone who calls them self “King” start ordering two people to do something ridiculous. Everyone dismisses it as a prank and goes home. At midnight you receive a text from the same person, “King,” saying that the two students “will be punished for not following the King’s orders.” The next day, you see on the local news that two people were found dead last night, those being the two students. The same thing happened today, where “King” texted two students to do something stupid. Everyone ignored them, and the next day they were found dead. You and your class then decide that this is no prank, and are now in a survival game, the King’s Game.
According to the protagonist Nobuaki, a survivor of another king’s game, stated that the king may actually be a virus, a mental virus where all the deaths were all them imagining it, and that it revolved a bug in the messaging system. However, after the person who found this out fixed the bug, she was killed by the king afterward.
During the show, Nobuaki visited a village, the village where the first King’s Game was held. Where the villagers were receiving letters from the king, and were totally wiped out. He found that the village was home to a family of a father and two girls. the protagonist’s former girlfriend, now dead, and a psychopath hellbent on killing everyone through the King’s Game.
Right now the top contender is the psychopath, but that is an obvious choice. I believe, instead, that the game is somehow connected between this family, but so far I don’t know what. Could the King really be a virus which the father of the two girls accidentally released? Could it be a ghost which the father killed and is seeking revenge? there aren’t enough clues to tell for sure who or what the King is, so so far I only have educated guesses. We will just have to wait and see until the end for a clear answer.
