The scene you mentioned where Sebastian spanks Ciel and makes him meow is indeed quite uncharacteristic of him. We have seen in the canon how Sebastian rather whip the boy’s hands. Hands are more sensitive than the behind, plus Ciel was wearing a Victorian bustle in the musical, so the impact of the spanking would have been muffled. Of course Sebastian is strong enough to reduce Ciel’s spine to powder – Victorian bustle or not – but that is not the point.

Yes, we could argue that Sebastian was going for the humiliation-tactic instead, but that is not quite Sebastian’s style either, as his primary weapon is his words, not hands. In the scene in the Jack the Ripper Arc on which the spanking-scene was based, we see Sebastian make jabs at his master. He never did anything physical to him.

If I really wanted to, I could at least try to justify the spanking scene a little, because if the Sebaciel phenomenon didn’t exist already, then that scene may not have such a heavy pedophilic aftertaste. With every passing season, we just get more and more isekai series. The summer 2019 season gave us quite a few different isekai anime, but one of the most interesting ones was Maou-sama, Retry! There was a lot to like with this series and there was no shortage of great moments. Today we are going to be looking at some of these great moments as we go over the top five scenes in Maou-sama, Retry! Let’s get started.

Hakuto and Aku are attacked by a group of bandits and find themselves trapped. They are saved by the holy maiden Luna and her soldiers who dispatch the bandits and then turn their attention to Hakuto. Looking to hunt down the Demon Lord, Luna and her knights try to kill Hakuto but he tosses the knights aside and punishes Luna for her arrogance by giving her a few spankings. This is by far one of the funniest scenes in Maou-sama, Retry! The bits with the soldiers and the bandits getting tossed around are funny on their own, but seeing Hakuto spank Luna just takes the scene to the next level.

Near the end of the episode, the titular Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, kidnaps a young girl named Aoi and plans to take her into the Entertainment District, where he will “use” her for his mission. Specifically, he meant to use her to infiltrate the city’s sex workers. Tanjiro and his friends attempt to save Aoi by offering to go with him instead, which Uzui agrees to. Then, in a bizarre moment of intimidation, Uzui spanks Aoi over his shoulder. The moment was immediately controversial amongst fans, with many pointing out just how creepy and unnecessary the whole scene was.
