Kuroto nakano
I'm going to pamper him to his heart's content!: Directed by Tomoaki Koshida, Midori Yui. With Azumi Waki, Jun'ichi Suwabe, Joshua Bangle, Dawn Michelle Bennett. It was another long, hard day at work for Kuroto Nakano – until he came home to find a demigod fox cooking dinner for him.
Man, this is really starting to anger me to no end. Whomever is responsible for the English adaptation keeps ramming the name Kuroto into the subtitles when the name has NOT been assigned to Nakano. The name has NEVER appeared in the manga and the ONLY time it was actually used in the anime is some apparent flashback sequence with a boy. The manga doesn’t have those sequences, but it does have a flashback that apparently goes back generations. And yet text that doesn’t say “Kuroto” in it gets translated as “Kuroto” ’cause “reasons.” 😠
That aside, I REALLY hope that “Kuroto” turns out to be Nakano’s dad or something. I doubt I’ll get my wish, but it would make me giggle if I do. It would prove yet again that “accurate but readable” subtitles are better than whatever localization crap that can be rewritten ’cause “reasons.” But as it stands, the adapter will likely get off Scott free and will continue to rewrite things as they see fit ’cause “localization is to hip to be square!”

My name is Kuroto Nakano. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am married to my mother. I work as an employee for a programming company, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the soonest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM unless I have to work overtime, and I get almost no sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of nothing and doing about twenty minutes of writhing in pain before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up with fatigue and stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I would probably ask the god lolis for help.
Kuroto Nakano (voiced by Junichi Suwabe) cannot remember when he didn’t come home on the last train. Then again, being able to go home at all is a blessing in itself. Kuroto’s job has him working tirelessly with no overtime pay, few holidays, and even fewer opportunities for some much-needed rest and relaxation.
Take into consideration the point of this show. Or, more specifically, account for the initial relationship between main characters Senko and Kuroto Nakano. Senko came into Kuroto’s life because Kuroto was overburden with a stressful job, a poor diet, and zero self-care. Senko’s role was to help alleviate his exhaustion.
Demigod fox Senko leaves the divine realm to pamper the hell out of a complete nobody on earth named Kuroto Nakano. And why should she pamper a human? Well, to alleviate the dark energy around him, which is what causes trouble and evil in the world when it accumulates. A god stoops to pamper and help just one human to get rid of the darkness around him? Doesn’t sound believable. And is one salaryman’s darkness enough to be a danger to humankind? Also a poor premise.
FUNimation apparently decided that any terms of affection from Senko-san are an absolute no-no. Even though the anime CLEARLY shows Senko-san’s affection, FUNimation sez, “Up your butt, Jobu! We going to call him ‘Kuroto’ ’cause even though the manga has NEVER addressed him as such, we saw the name in an early anime episode. So we are assuming the boy with this name is Nakano.”
No doubt these bastards will be right, but man, I’d laugh my arse off if Kuroto turned out to be Nakano’s dad or grandfather. I was asked why this issue pisses me off so much. Well, I’m in the school of “accurate but readable” and having Senko-san address Nakano by something other than something proper for “onushi” is not acceptable to me. Plus, I’ve seen official adaptations where the translator/adapter decided something, only to be proven wrong later.
