My Sweet Tyrant Season 1 Episode 1

Here, in this episode, he is thinking so hard what kind of endearment he is going to call Non. He thought a lot that he ended up calling her “Nontan.” However, when he was in front of her, he ends up calling her in her last name, “Katagiri.” Upon their going home, walking together, she came up with an endearment or a nickname for him, which is “Akkun.”

Urashima Keitarou is a loser. He’s failed the Tokyo University entrance exams two years in a row, and his parents have finally kicked him out of the house. Penniless and destitute, he travels to his grandmother Hinata’s inn, hoping she’ll put him up until he can get into Tokyo U and fulfill his promise with his childhood sweetheart (whose face he can’t even remember). Unfortunately – or perhaps fortunately – it turns out that the inn is no longer an inn…  it’s an all-girls dormitory, as he discovers in his typical blundering fashion by grabbing an eyeful and more of every girl in the place!  Narusegawa Naru, a fiery-tempered high school student and the first victim of Keitarou’s lewd bungling, wastes no time doling out brutal punishment and preparing to kick him back out to the street.  But wait!  A letter has come from grandma Hinata, and Keitarou is to be the dorm’s new live-in manager!  Is this a blessing from heaven, or has he been cursed to a living hell?

I loved it and wish so badly that they just made it into a normal length anime but I do suppose there is no real depth and that it was just a feel good short anime. Coming from a female perspective it’s really refreshing to see a male lead thats deeply and crazy in love rather than the over used Nontan character which I actually didn’t mind. It’s just fun to see a nice change rather than the female lead chasing and chasing (Ao haru ride types) or just totally numb (My little monster types) It was fun to see a couple happily in love and super refreshing to see the passion between them shared equally. Probably my favourite were the side characters though expecially the brothers creepy friend and the sister.

this is so adorable 🙁 this is my kind of thing. cute adorable romantic things. but i prefer the side characters, chiho and masago. i would love to see them together. i hope the age difference isnt too much. episode 18 was my fav because irie got all excited when kubomura patted her ‘head’, her reaction is funny to me.

When I watched the first episode of ‘Akkun to Kanojo’ 12 weeks ago, I didn’t really know what to make of it. The series has 25 episodes of which 13 have aired, each 4 minutes long which mainly focus on a high school couple featuring Akkun and Nontan. Akkun is head over heels in love with Nontan but ‘hides’ his affection by being overly nasty. Nontan is ‘understanding’ and loves him anyway.

After my initial shock at the series and Akkun’s behaviour I tried to rationalise it by pushing Akkun into this ‘tsundere’ box. I told myself to keep watching, he’ll warm up, he’ll stop calling his girlfriend ugly and gross, he’ll stop telling her to go away and that she’s annoying. But he never did, rather than a ‘tsundere’ Akkun is just a bully. I know what you’re thinking my dear reader – chill out! It’s just a short comedy show, don’t be so serious! But honestly, it’s kind of weird to see such awful behaviours be seen as ‘funny’ when honestly they’re frightening. The series focuses on drawing laughs from the audience through the contrast of ‘nasty’ Akkun and his lovey-dovey self. By the end of the series I honestly couldn’t tell which one was worst – the Akkun who spoke harshly to his girlfriend, or the Akkun who casually talked about eating her dead skin.

The anime does also have 2 other ‘couples’, one is Akkun’s sister and his best friend where the sister’s tsundere behaviour is actually sweet! The other is a student/teacher relationship but it was portrayed as a one sided love from the student (thankfully, I have my own qualms about those love stories). Unfortunately these stories were overshadowed by the distasteful relationship between Akkun and Nontan. I’ll have to stick to my rather poor rating of the show as despite the adorable graphics, and interesting side stories, the main story left me feeling disgusted.

Not Recommended: My Sweet Tyrant’s premise is flawed, but even worse so is that its comedy is so one note that even just three minutes an episode feels like a waste of time.
